The Tailcoat

The tailcoat is still the most appropriate attire for grand balls.

At the prestigious and traditional Viennese balls, while the tuxedo (smoking) is allowed, many attendees opt for the tailcoat.

At events like the Vienna Opera Ball, the Philharmonic Ball, and the Techniker-Cercle Ball, tailcoats are mandatory; all men must wear one unless in evening uniform.

Some balls require debutants to wear a tailcoat.
